Reflection

I find it almost impossible to say anything bad about any of the books written by Rick Riordan, I enjoyed and loved them all but this one was one of my favourites. The Red Pyramid was action filled but mostly it was very humorous which is one of it's main enjoyable features. In this book there were a lot of circumstances where the results were totally unexpected which also adds to the books greatness. This book made me very interested in Egyptian mythology and other sorts of mythology so it made me think of other novel and even careers that are related somehow to mythology. I would very much recommend reading this book because I found it quite awesome. It's an easy book to read but at some part it is sort of confusing due to the fact that the novel is told in first person but they go back and forth between Sadie and Carter telling the story. I would recommend it to people who like mythology, comedy, and to 12-16 year old, but then again my father loved it when he read it so even some adults would enjoy reading it too. I think this book is very much unlikely to not be loved and it is high up on my overall favourite book list, so to anyone who reads this, you should totally go and read this book.   :)

Connections to the Real World

The Red Pyramid is based in the real current world so in the novel there are many places and things which are real. The author Rick Riordan, I find, just took the real world and threw Egyptian gods, mythical creatures, and magic into it to create this novel. Also to make the fictional parts of the novel seem more life like the author adds real things to it, like Sadie and Carter's companion, Khufu the baboon whom aids them a lot wears an L.A. Lakers jersey. I think the author took a lot of his interests and what he thought the readers would like and put it together to write this book to make it humorous, sort of life like, and able to be connected to real world places and thoughts of things. Many of the events in the novel could positively not take place in real life because many of them involve myths and fictional things. Fiction allows for readers to escape the real world into a more interesting one, it's all about imagination. Some real life possible situations can easily be changed into a fiction situation or other way around, for example in the novel when Set was released into the world and then Sadie and Carter have to stop him before Set causes danger, in the real world you can think of that situation as if a very bad criminal gets loose and cops have to find and stop the criminal before anything bad happens. In the novel Carter and Sadie go from being normal kids to totally not normal kids and that majorly changes their lives, the message that comes from that is that change can happen at anytime and it could be minor or major but in the end not matter what happens something good will come out of it, if not for you then for someone else. In the Red Pyramid it was very easy to picture everything happening because of both the real and fictional aspects of the novel, it's what made the novel very much enjoyable.

Empathize with a Character

Imagine you were a 12 years old girl living a normal and ordinary life but then one event changed that forever, you would probably be confused and sort of scared just like Sadie Kane was. Sadie was living with her grandparents, went to a school, and had best friends but when her brother and father came for one of their visits, the life she had was no longer. Sadie was very disappointed that for their visit her father was taking them to a museum so he can do after hours research. While at the museum, their father strangely asks Sadie and Carter to lock the curator in his office and by all means necessary to stay out of the room he is in, of course Sadie becomes really curious and anyone would in the kind of situation she was in. Sadie's intuition probably told her to sneak a peek at what her father was doing and people tend to follow their intuition so of course Sadie did what she was told not to do but it's understandable why she would. If you secretively watch your father and then discover he is releasing an Egyptian god, you would hopefully be like Sadie and put an effort into stopping him. Afterwords she was terrified and ultimately confused because a scary god was released, her father was captured, and weird people showed up but then disappeared. If all of which happened to Sadie happened to someone else they would probably act and respond in similar ways to what Sadie did and it is completely understandable why they would act that way under the circumstances. Throughout Sadie and Carter's adventure there is much confusion and fright but they get through it together.

Plot Summary

Brother and sister, Carter and Sadie Kane, live two different lives. Sadie is a typical 12 years old girl with a punk- British twist and she's been living with her grandparents in London since she was 6. Carter on the other hand travels the world with their  father, Julius Kane an Egyptologist, and they only get to visit with Sadie twice a year because of the custody agreement after Carter and Sadie's mother death. Their adventure begins with one of these visits, on that day they went from being normal (sort of) to kids that have to stop a god, save their father, and escape the House of Life mysterious group, all while having a god inside them and fleeing for their lives. Carter and Sadie thought that they were just going to the museum so their father can look at an artifact but inside their father had a secret agenda. Julius tries to release Osiris but instead five gods were released, including Set whom plans on creating destruction. It was during the release that Sadie and Carter got gods inside them, Sadie and Carter didn't even know it happened but next thing they knew they were dragged into a world of magic and danger. They subconsciously know how to fight a little and they have some newly found magic so they have some protection against the many enemies including mythical creatures, like serpopards (serpent leopards) and Set's minions. Carter and Sadie, together, must stop Set before its to late but during the journey enemies continue to get in the way and they find out secrets about their family which changes things greatly. When they finally get to battling Set, Carter and Sadie overpower Set, only to find out he wasn't truly completely evil it was his minion, Face of Horror, which was under control by an more dangerous enemy. In the end, they stopped chaos for now but they won some and and loss some. They don't get to be with their father and danger still lurks about but Carter and Sadie are going to gather magicians and train them for future need for help against the gods. It is too late now to go back to their sort of normal lives but Carter and Sadie Kane don't care, it was too boring for them. :)
